As Cincinnati Bearcats football approaches the dusk of their season, so too are the former UC players in the NFL as several of their teams are making playoff pushes or clinging to postseason spots. Here’s an update on several of them, excluding Ricardo Mathews, Mike Windt, and Trent Cole, all of whom had the week off.
Kenbrell Thompkins: Was targeted four times in the passing game during the NY Jets’ Thursday night game but was able to haul in just one of them for two yards.
Conner Barwin: A well-rounded, workman’s like performance from the former ‘Cat, who notched five tackles, the 4th most on the Eagles, a half-sack and a tackle for loss.
Travis Kelce: Despite the offensive explosion from Kansas City’s offense, the explosive tight end didn’t have that huge of a role in it. Kelce was targeted a team high nine times, sure, but hauled in just five of them for 36 yards. It seems the Chiefs opted to utilize him in more of a “move the chains” kind of role rather than as a deep threat exploiting slower linebackers, which is his bread and butter. Odd. I’m sure he’s happy with the win, though!
Derek Wolfe: The hybrid defensive tackle/defensive end notched a pair of tackles in Denver’s blowout loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.
Kevin Huber: The spotlight shined on Cincinnati during Monday Night Football but the Bengals’ offense played like hot garbage. Fortunately, that gave Huber plenty of opportunities to show off his cannon of a leg. He did shank a punt but averaged 41.1 ypp in spite of it and had a bomb of 59 yards.
