Cincinnati Football: Wide Receiver Andrew Parchment Decommits From UC

The fallout from Eddie Gran, one of Cincinnati’s best recruiters, leaving for Kentucky has begun. 6’3″ wide receiver Andrew Parchment from Fort Lauderdale, Florida has decommitted from UC. Scout’s Corey Bender was the first to break the news.

This was bound to happen. Like a head coach, when a coordinator leaves for a different job, previously committed recruits falling by the wayside. In some cases, like this one, the impact is even deeper.

Parchment committed to the Bearcats way back in May of 2015. He was one of the first recruits in Cincinnati’s 2016 class and since he made his announcement picked up offers from the likes of North Carolina State, Tulane, and South Florida. But like the four players who decommitted from UC following the initial moving and shaking on the coaching carousel, this probably isn’t necessarily a result of another school turning up the heat on their recruitment of the wide out.

Instead, this is primarily due to Gran leaving UC. He was Parchment’s primary recruiter while he was the Bearcats’ offensive coordinator and while it doesn’t appear that Kentucky has offered the receiver, I wouldn’t be surprised if one was coming.

The million dollar question is, if Parchment is the first to leave as a result of UK hiring away Eddie Gran but will he be the last? Romelo Webster, another of Gran’s targets, already flipped to Iowa State with the hoard of recruits in December. UC’s lone 2017 commitment Jordan Merrell could definitely be rethinking his options with a year until National Signing Day, along with recent verbal Tyrin Summers. It’s unclear if either of them, or Parchment, will flip from red and black to blue and white but we’ll definitely have to keep an on them in the coming weeks.

One thing’s certain, though, Tommy Tuberville needs to hire Gran and Hinshaw’s replacement and stat. Knowing him, he’s long compiled a list of candidates but the longer he waits, as Dan so astutely puts it, the more it puts Cincinnati’s 2016 class at risk.
