ORIGINAL ANALYSIS

Pierce plays both wide receiver and cornerback for his Panthers. Given his athleticism it only makes sense for his coach to put him on the field as much as possible. In the secondary, Pierce matches up physically against opposing wide receivers. Typically defensive backs in man-to-man coverage are outsized by taller, larger receivers. But Pierce is 6’2″, 170 lbs, and has long arms, the exact frame of the offensive playmaker he’s tasked at covering. The receiver’s intrinsic physical advantage gets thrown right out the window when lining up across from Davin Pierce. Overall, the DB seems to display good technique (hip flexibility) and instincts. Opposing quarterbacks and wide receivers must just hate him.

ORIGINAL OUTLOOK

Davin Pierce is a really, really intriguing prospect who will likely wind up in the secondary at Cincinnati. Yes he also plays wide receiver for Dr. Phillips High School but the defense is where he truly belongs. Plus with his dreds, Pierce should fit like a glove in Cincinnati’s secondary. As of now, as a player still in high school, he’d probably be tabbed as an above average safety and average cornerback during his freshman year as a Bearcat. However I’d love to see him line up at corner for UC. He has excellent size and just needs to continue improving the finer points of his game. If he does so, Pierce could develop into a very special player for the Bearcats.
