Maxwell Award Watch List Includes Collaros and Pead

The 75th Annual Maxwell Award watch list was announced today and University of Cincinnati’s own Zach Collaros and Isaiah Pead.  The Maxwell Award has been given to America’s outstanding collegiate football player since 1937 and is named in honor of sportswriter Robert W. “Tiny” Maxwell.

Collaros, a unanimous First Team All-Big East selection in 2010.  He was 225-of-383 for 2,902 yards and 26 touchdowns. He led the Big East in passing yards per game (263.8), total passing yards (2,902), total offense (282.2), and was third in pass efficiency (137.5).

Pead was a Second Team All-Big East honoree in 2010 after rushing for 1,029 yards and six touchdowns on 157 attempts.  He ranked third in the league in rushing, but led the conference for the second-straight year with his 6.6 yards per carry average. That average ranks him in the top-10 of all running backs nationally.

Semifinalists for the Maxwell Award will be announced October 31st and the three finalists for each award will be unveiled on November 21st. The winner of the 2011 Maxwell Award will be announced as part of the Home Depot ESPNU College Football Awards Show held on December 8th. The formal presentation of these awards will be made at the Maxwell Football Club Awards Gala hosted by Harrah’s Entertainment Atlantic City on March 2nd, 2012.
