Annen over Robinson at tight end, and other notes

It looks like the starting tight end job was won by Blake Annen, as senior Adrien Robinson will be relegated to a backup role. Annen has been turning heads since the end of last season and I’m pleased that a player so early in the program has stepped into the #1 tight end role. He’ll have some big shoes to fill as Ben Guidugli has since graduated. While the spread doesn’t traditionally use the tight end as much as a pro-style offense, having a threat across the middle is always important for offenses that pass as much as the Bearcats do. Guidugli played that role perfectly in his time at Cincinnati and if Annen can have half the amount of production Guidugli had, it will be a smart move in my book.

Other depth chart notes:

  • Austen Bujnoch and Andre Cureton are still fighting for the right guard spot
  • Chris Williams and Reuben Johnson are battling for the nickleback spot – Interesting here as Johnson appears to be slide over from cornerback to NB
  • True freshman Ralph David Abernathy is listed as the kickoff returner – VERY happy to hear this!
  • Veteran George Winn is still backing up Isaiah Pead even though Jameel Poteat has had an impressive camp
  • Alex Chisum, Shaq Washington, Nick Temple, Dwight Jackson, and Clemente Casseus are all true freshman who should see playing time this fall
