The addition of Ben Pooler to the linebacking core has paid dividends for the entire defense. The Bearcats finally have three solid starters at linebacker. Pooler is a big guy (6’3″ 232 lbs) and moves very well in space at the SAM. Having already played for Maryland at his previous stop he also has a ton of experience playing college football and he’s been teaching the younger linebackers since he first stepped on campus. While there is depth at linebacker, most of that is unproven talent like Dwight Jackson and Nick Temple. These guys need to absorb all that they can from veterans like Pooler and J.K. Schaffer because they will likely be thrown into the fire in 2012.
