As reported here:

"Cornerback Derek Owens is transferring from Georgia to Cincinnati. The sophomore from Jacksonville, Fla., was academically ineligible for last year’s Liberty Bowl and has played sparingly this season. He totaled two tackles in Georgia’s first three games but did not play last week against Ole Miss."

Adding depth from an SEC school is always a good thing. Just look at how Kenbrell Thompkins has worked out (he did technically have a short stint at Tennessee). These things can have a way of falling apart but if he does end up coming to Clifton and able to play in 2012, I’d say the Bearcats are getting a solid cornerback to bolster the ranks. I’d be a little concerned about his academic ineligibility last season but I trust Coach Jones not to take a flyer on a kid he didn’t think wouldn’t me able to hack it in class. Owens would absolutely be an upgrade to this cornerback unit that, while bringing back almost everyone next season, could benefit from more talent.
