Bearcats Nation vs. ESPN Big East Blog Week 6

The competition continues between myself and ESPN’s Andrea Adelson as to where the Bearcats’ defensive line will do this year. Spoiler Alert: They’re. Dominating. Cincinnati rolled into the bye week 2nd overall in the conference among defensive lines trailing only South Florida. Despite a week off, the Bearcats were able to climb to the top of the rankings yet again maintaining first place in tackles for loss, sacks, and forced fumbles. This defensive line is so good that they can even gain ground when almost every other team in the Big East has an opportunity to jump them. Just take a look at it by the numbers:

Big East Thoughts – UC and USF with byes

  • Louisville’s Marcus Smith went off last weekend notching 3 sacks by himself. The Cardinals will need more out of him as they are still in the bottom half of the conference in these rankings
  • Since both Cincinnati and South Florida had byes this past week the rest of the conference was able to close the gap a bit, but they are still at the top of the rankings
  • Despite owning the highest amount of tackles so far, they are still 6th in the rankings mainly because they don’t get a lot of sacks or tackles for loss.
  • Half of the conference has now had their bye weeks and West Virginia and Syracuse will be on byes win Week 7, so look for all of these stats to be more reflective of their performances soon
