Based on a report this morning via the Cincinnati Enquirer, and not by Paul Daugherty or Bill Koch, the University of Cincinnati lost over $1 million in sponsorship money by playing two games at Paul Brown Stadium this season. The actual loss isn’t that big of a deal considering Cincinnati will make some of that up with the shared ticket revenue, apparel sales, etc. But putting their vendors in a situation that conflicts with those of the Bengals is never good for relations between the sponsor and the university. This is especially true when that vendor is IMG College, one of UC’s most important partners. Because of Mike Thomas’ shortsightedness, new athletic director Whit Babcock is now faced with the task of mending that relationship. I’m more than confident he can keep IMG College happy but this once again proves that while Mike Thomas made a few good hires here at Cincinnati, he has quite possibly the worst PR and business relationship skills known to man.
