Bearcats fans got a nice surprise to begin the game with the news that JUCO big-man Cheikh Mbodj (Check Mooj) would dress for the game. He ended up having a huge factor on the game and was a nice compliment to Yancy Gates. Mbodj didn’t light up the scoreboard, recording only a couple of free throws, but created an intensity on both ends of the floor with his huge wingspan and great athleticism. The rest of the team clearly fed off his energy as the Bearcats put together by far the most dominating game of the season. It was the kind of performance we have been looking for out of Cincinnati all year long. Yancy Gates finished with a double-double, Sean Kilpatrick was lightning in a bottle from beyond the arc and driving to the bucket, and Ge’Lawn Guyn has established himself as Cashmere Wright’s backup and the most developed freshman so far. A game after dropping the heart breaker to Presbyterian, Mick obviously pushed the right buttons and the team responded in blowout fashion. Here’s to hoping the Bearcats play for blood like this the rest of the season.
