Opening Statement

  • You can tell Jones is more than a little irked that it’s been over two months since they’ve played in Nippert Stadium.
  • Ball control and 3rd down conversions were great against Syracuse.
  • Is actually mentioning the previous week’s game, unlike just after Rutgers.
  • Coach speak about UConn, although thoughts about the strength of their OL and running game are valid.

Q & A

  • Seniors are pumped for this game, especially with it being Senior Day.
  • Cincinnati executed a solid gameplan last week and that’s why they were successful against Syracuse. Looking for more of the same this week.
  • “Team won’t scoreboard watch” – Yes they will.
  • High praises for Derek Wolfe and John Hughes who are anchoring that defensive line.
  • Difference between 2010 and 2011 is the durability of the entire team, not just Isaiah Pead.
  • 18 players can bench 400+ lbs, over quadruple what they had in 2010.
  • Steve Stripling has developed a great DL unit and the backups this year like Jordan Stepp will contribute even more next year.
  • Eric Lefeld is a redshirt freshman replacing Sean Hooey and has progressed nicely as he’s gotten more reps. Still needs to cut down on those false starts.
  • Both coaches and players are still adjusting to the loss of Zach Collaros.
  • Jones just knows the details of the game especially when speaking about how complicated the quarterback position is. I’d love to sit down for an hour or so and talk football with him.
  • Reemphasizes how the fans should show up on Saturday – Pay tribute to the 22 seniors, make a good impression on the bowl selection committee, etc.
  • Finished by saying he’s flattered by the UNC, UCLA, etc. rumors but he loves being at Cincinnati and the direction of the athletic department and the university.
  • Cincinnati is “a very special place”.
