Yesterday Derek Wolfe got the news that he was receiving the Big East Co-Defensive Player of the Year Award. He, along with Isaiah Pead who won it alone on the offensive side of the ball, are the first Bearcats to win that individual award since Mardy Gilyard won it on Special Teams in 2009. Wolfe also got placed on the All-Big East 1st Team. Well the accolades keep on coming for Wolfe as he is now an All-American on the 2nd Team. Mardy Gilyard was also the last Bearcat to be named to the All-American team (2009).

Wolfe definitely deserves these honors as he was a force inside for Cincinnati this year, commanding double-teams at every snap and still notching 19.5 tackles for loss and 9.5 sacks. These honors will certainly help his NFL draft stock. He had been followed by pro scouts almost all season but having that All-American next to his name will be nice to see. There is no question that Wolfe will get drafted in April but you have to think that these awards along with the monster season he had will lock him in as no worse than a 2nd day pick.
