Don’t tell the Bearcats who dominated tonight that they were down Yancy Gates and Cheikh Mbodj among others. Cincinnati dominated from the outset jumping out to 15+ leads quickly against a team that specializes in defense. Playing a smaller lineup, the UC offense was fluid and fast. All season we were forced to watch a mind-numbingly slow developing offense drain all but a few seconds of the shot clock before even making an attempt at a shot. Tonight, Cincinnati scored almost as soon as they got the ball over half-court. All of the starters finished in double digits and the entire team shot a season-high 55% from the floor. Sean Kilpatrick went nuts from beyond the arc, draining 6 threes. He led the Bearcats as the team shot an insane 44% from three-point-land. It’s unreasonable to expect Cincinnati to keep up this pace the rest of the season but it’s interesting to see how well the offense played without their usual starters Yancy Gates and Cheikh Mbodj. Are they holding this team back? Well I’ll leave that to you to decide.
