Bearcats Linebacking Corps Gets Boost from Florida State Transfer

Cincinnati’s coaching staff doesn’t sleep. Whether it be recruiting or scouting the transfer wire, Butch Jones and co. work tirelessly to upgrade the talent on the Bearcats’ roster. Today they have added former Florida State Seminole linebacker Jeff Luc to the team:

Luc was the #1 overall inside linebacker according to Rivals as a member of the 2010 class. Last season for the Seminoles he tallied 15 tackles and 2 TFL’s. Word is he has wanted to leave Tallahassee because he is disgruntled with lack of playing time. That’s okay, UC will happily take him. Luc will likely have to sit out his Junior season at Cincinnati due to NCAA rules. Sometimes there are extenuating circumstances (coach leaving, medical hardship, etc.) that allows a player to receive an NCAA waiver and not sit out. But none of those circumstances apply here so he will be unavailable to play for the Bearcats until his Senior season. He will have two years of eligibility remaining.

Obviously adding a player of Jeff Luc’s caliber is always good for a football team. When he is available in the 2013 season I expect him to see decent playing time. Nick Temple will be the most experienced linebacker from a reps standpoint when that time comes but I don’t think there is any reason Luc can’t slide in with Solomon Tentman and Dwight Jackson. Thanks to this addition, the Bearcats’ linebacking corps should be among the best in the Big East that season.
