2013 Recruit Marquez Lanton Switches from Cincinnati to Arkansas State

Some quick news this morning that Marquez Lanton, a one-time Bearcat commit, will now play for Gus Malzahn and the Red Wolves. Lanton cites playing for such an esteemed coach and being close to home as some of the reasons he picked ASU. To me this doesn’t come as much of a surprise. Rumors swirled around the time of his verbal commitment to UC that he was only a ‘soft verbal’, in that he would likely be looking around. Now it seems like he has landed at a place where he could very well start from day one. The reason? Well his speed. There’s no question the kid’s got the wheels to burn DB’s at the college level but he was sitting behind players like Alex Chisum and Anthony McClung, among others, at Cincinnati. Lanton is a burner at return man as well but would have to leap-frog incumbent Ralph David Abernathy who is only a sophomore and has entrenched himself at that position for the Bearcats.

I wish Lanton the best of luck. He’s quite an athlete and has a good opportunity to make a name for himself at Arkansas State.
