Bearcat of the Week: George Winn
By Chris Bains
I have a feeling this guy is going to show up more than a few times on the BOTW Award list this year.
George Winn has been biding his time at Cincinnati for a starting role for years now. For most of his career he was relegated to 3rd-and-short situations. His bruising, downhill running didn’t go unnoticed on the coaching staff and he performed admirably in such limited usage. But as soon as Isaiah Pead graduated Winn was given the opportunity to shine. And shine he did. The senior averaged 8.6 yards per carry and picked up two touchdowns in his first start against the Pitt Panthers and last night was even better. On just 24 carries Winn rumbled for 147 yards on the ground, pummeling Delaware State’s defense into submission. It wasn’t just between the tackles, though. #32 displayed the wiggle and flexibility that Isaiah Pead trademarked during his time at Cincinnati.
As he gains more and more confidence Winn is trusting his abilities to deke defenders out of the way as well as power right through them. Because of him Cincinnati fans are assured that the Bearcats will once again tear it up on the ground this year.
