Bearcat of the Week: Greg Blair

facebooktwitterreddit

When J.K. Schaffer graduated after last season he left a major void to fill in the middle of Cincinnati’s defense. Thankfully the Bearcats had a man-beast waiting in the wings, Greg Blair. As I put it so eloquently last night:

And tackle he did. 19 of them, leading all players and acting as the catalyst to Cincinnati swallowing up Louisville’s rushing attack last night. Blair was also a menace against the pass, sacking Teddy Bridgewater twice.

He was clutch too as depicted on a tackle he made in the middle of the 4th quarter with the Cardinals soaking up the momentum from tying the game on a circus touchdown catch on their previous drive. They were driving in Cincinnati territory but were forced into a third-and-pass situation. Bridgewater was able to find his runningback slipping out of the backfield with nothing between him and a first down but Greg Blair. But #51 wrangled him before he got to the marker forcing Louisville to punt. Because that’s just what he does.

Blair is an anchor in the middle of the Cincinnati defense just like Schaffer was. It’s all that needs to be said. Let’s hope he can return to the Bearcats next season.
