Florida ATH Tshumbi Johnson Switches from South Florida to Cincinnati
By Chris Bains
Excuse my tardiness on this post but here it is anyways. Tshumbi Johnson is the newest commitment for Cincinnati who officially pledged for the Bearcats on Thursday. He’s an extremely gifted athlete who has the skills to simply take over games at times. Johnson is being recruited as a quarterback, which is rumored to be why he dropped South Florida for Cincinnati. The Bulls were recruiting him as a wide receiver. No matter what Butch Jones and co. appear to be telling him I don’t see Johnson ever playing a down as a quarterback. As such I’ll do my best evaluating him as a receiver.

Overview
Johnson is clearly the best player on the field. There’s no doubt about it. He just has so many options at his disposal with the football in his hands, be it the size to shed tackles or the quick feet to juke a defender out of his shoes. That’s the thing, Johnson looks like he does it effortlessly and honestly looks like he’s moving slower than he is on the field. But he’s not. He’s just doing everything with minimum effort but with maximum results. That’s unteachable talent.
Outlook
Again Tshumbi Johnson is an extremely athletic player. But I also don’t think he’s going to see playing time as a quarterback at Cincinnati. In 2013 Munchie Legaux is a senior and Johnson could potentially take a redshirt that year. But in 2014 he’ll have to climb over more veteran players Patrick Coyne, Bennie Coney, and Trenton Norvell, who are more prepared to field the position for the Bearcats. I think Johnson wind up making his money as a slot receiver, runningback, or in the secondary even. But really he should thrive where ever the coaches place him. The dude’s just that skilled.
