Bearcat of the Week: George Winn

This is quickly becoming the George Winn of the Week Award.

The Cincinnati runningback accounted for four of UC’s five touchdowns on Saturday and has been the mark of consistency this season. He’s been one of the aspects the Bearcats could count on offensively to have a strong performance week-in and week-out. And yesterday he delivered again with three huge rushing touchdowns including 165 yards rushing to lead all ball carrier on Saturday. But amazingly enough he also got it done with his arm.

On 4th and 2 with UC on the outskirts of Syracuse territory the Bearcats fake a run like they were going to pound the ball for a first down. But just before Winn lowered the shoulder between his linemen, he jumped up and lobbed the ball to a streaking Travis Kelce who ran it in for a touchdown. See for yourself:

Pandemonium erupted on Cincinnati’s sideline as Syracuse couldn’t make heads or tails of what just happened. The pass put the Bearcats up 14 – 10 early in the the 2nd quarter. That trick play has been making the rounds too, getting Winn some nice pub around the major media networks. ESPN notched it as the 7th best play of the college football weekend and Smart Football even did a nice little breakdown of Cincinnati’s trickery.

But beyond the trick play George Winn piled up remarkable numbers on Saturday as he has all season. He is now just over 100 yards short of the thousand-yard mark with 4 regular season games to go. Winn also has a strong chance of surpassing Isaiah Pead’s 1,259 rushing yards last year in 13 games. Who would’ve figured that when the season began.
