Cincinnati 102, MVSU 60: On To The Next One

The Cincinnati Bearcat team we witnessed tonight will hopefully be the same team we’ll see for the rest of the season. Surely it’s extremely unlikely that they will crack the 100-point mark every game this season but UC played with the kind of intensity that we expected out of this team. Even when the backups took over late in the 2nd half UC’s offense continued to operate at the same level as with the starters. That was marked difference from the first game when Cincinnati seemed to fall asleep as soon as Mick pulled Cash, Kilpatrick, and Jackson.

The most encouraging aspect of the evening was the way the Bearcats were able to go 8 – 9 players deep. Mick experimented with using his bench extensively the past two seasons but it seemed UC easily substituted Cash and Jackson for guys like GeLawn Guyn and Titus Rubles without missing a beat. Even with the starters resting the offense continued the uptempo pace. In doing so they gassed Mississippi Valley State by the 2nd half and rolled to a huge victory. Overall the game was never really in doubt but Cincinnati got the job done without letting the Delta Devils sniff a lead.

Next the Bearcats take on the North Carolina A&T Aggies on Sunday at 2 PM in an attempt to beat only schools with egregiously long names.
