Cincinnati 62, Rutgers 54: The Bearcats Won A Basketball Game

I really can’t give this post a more descriptive title than that. Cincinnati won. That’s all. Cashmere Wright got into foul trouble early in the first half and as usual the Bearcats couldn’t find a sliver of offensive rhythm with him riding pine. UC was mired by turnovers and put itself behind the 8-ball heading into halftime down 30 – 22. But when Cash returned Cincinnati finally found their legs offensively. No UC’s point guard didn’t necessarily provide the spark himself but his presence at the top of the key took pressure off of Sean Kilpatrick who found space on the wing and started hitting threes.

Most importantly the defense buckled down holding the Scarlet Knights to just 12 points in the first 10 minutes of the second half, allowing Cincinnati’s offense to battle back and take their first lead of the game. Rutgers would never get it back, thanks in part to Justin Jackson’s abuse of any and every basketball that was thrown around the rim. Outside of Mean Face’s excitement he typically provides the Bearcats overall just played an ugly, frustrating game complete with turnovers and spats of amnesia on defense. But they did what they had to do to win and moved to 5 – 3 in the Big East. Plus with games upcoming against Seton Hall and Providence who are a combined 4 – 12 in the conference should help this team as they continue to put it all together.
