The first Cincinnati Bearcat selected in the 2013 NFL Draft is Travis Kelce. The Kansas City Chiefs used their third round pick to take the UC tight end. Kelce was the 5th player at his position to come of the board. While being named the first pick in the third round is very impressive, he was passed over by other tight ends in the second round likely due to character and injury concerns with the UC tight end. Still, like I said, he went high in the draft going 63rd overall and that is very commendable.
As was mentioned in his pre-draft analysis, Kelce brings a unique blend of size and speed to the table. Cincinnati’s coaches recognized this and used his versatility to line him up all over the field to exploit mismatches in the defense. He was large enough to go punch-for-punch with linebackers with the speed to keep defensive backs on their heels. The Chiefs are getting an extremely athletic tight end who could make an impact early. Not only are they in the middle of a franchise overhaul but Kansas City has major questionmarks at tight end. Kelce might just fill that void and has the opportunity establish himself atop the depth chart this Fall.
