Bearcats Sign Home-And-Home With Nebraska, San Diego State Game Postponed?

The Cincinnati Enquirer broke the news about an hour ago that Cincinnati has inked a home-and-home basketball series with Nebraska. The Cornhuskers will visit Fifth Third Arena in the upcoming season with the Bearcats returning the favor the following year. Don’t get excited, though. While the “Nebraska” brand carries a heavy weight on the football side, the basketball side isn’t nearly as strong. The Cornhuskers are a perennial sub-500 team in the Big Ten winning just 5 conference games last year. This opponent might draw some of the casual fans out of the shadows but to those knowledgeable in the sport, Nebraska will be on of the weaker opponents on the non-conference schedule. Still, hosting a Big Ten team is always cool.

The fallout from this agreement, which is still verbal in nature, could affect Cincinnati’s series with San Diego State. The Aztecs have been trying to get out of their scheduled visit to the Shoe for months now since making the decision to stay in the Mountain West. The one stipulation for UC to allow SDSU to push the matchup back a year is that the Bearcats would have to “find an appropriate alternative at home“. Well based on Whit’s apparent definition of “appropriate”, the Nebraska Cornhuskers fit the bill. So look for an announcement stating that San Diego State and Cincinnati will postpone their game until the 2014-15 season.
