With the focus on championships and on-field awards in this athletics-crazed world, the emphasis on community service many times gets lost in the shuffle. For the players themselves balancing school and athletics can be a tiresome task. A typical day for a student athlete can be arduous. Most times they get up at the crack of dawn, hit the weight room before going to class, then attend practice in the afternoon before finishing up at the homework tables. A day that starts at 6 am can many times end 12-14 hours later.
So it’s extremely impressive that Jordan Luallen has been nominated to the 2013 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team (h/t emailer Dan for the link) that honors those football players who “who have made a commitment to enriching the lives of others while contributing to the greater good of their communities”.
Luallen is certainly an active member in the community carrying the flag for UC where ever he goes, be it as close as schools around Cincinnati or as far away as churches in Nicaragua. Since joining the Bearcats from Georgia Tech as a quarterback, the senior has been moved around the field numerous times, landing as such positions as fullback, tight end, and linebacker. But he’s not only accepted each transition but embraced the change as an opportunity to contribute to the team and make the Bearcats as a whole better. He’s a team player in every sense of the word and this honor couldn’t have gone to a better kid.
Congratulations, Jordan!
