Bearcats Feast Their Way To Lobster Eating Championship At AAC Clambake

facebooktwitterreddit

Football and basketball championships are the most important titles in the college athletics. But in the AAC, where Old Big East traditions are still alive and strong, some circles value the lobster eating contest more than the rest. And Tommy Tuberville seems to have assembled an all-star team of Bearcats specifically to take down this title. Quarterback Brendon Kay, middle linebacker Greg Blair, defensive tackle Jordan Stepp, and offensive guard Austen Bujnoch all represented Cincinnati in Newport, Rhode Island.

Tonight they wore the red and black with pride taking down twenty-one (21! 2-1!!!) lobsters. The rest of the AAC didn’t stand a chance. Temple shoveled in the next most lobsters with 16 and UConn and Houston tied for third. The move to a “new” conference has apparently done the Bearcats some good. 21 lobsters is quadruple the abysmal 5 they chowed down last year. Clearly Tommy Tuberville knows a thing or two more about lobster eating competitions than Butch Jones.

What’s most impressive is that Cincinnati did more with less yet again by having only three players participate when most other schools were used four. Getting more bang for your buck should be the school motto at this point. Not only that but Bujnoch paced the individual competition by eating 8 lobsters by himself. I can’t even imagine the kind of focus and desire it takes to eat that much shellfish.

The full breakdown, again per No 2-Minute Warning:

  • Cincinnati: 21
  • Temple: 16
  • UConn: 10
  • Houston: 10
  • Central Florida: 9
  • Rutgers: 8
  • Louisville: 7
  • Memphis: 7
  • South Florida: 6
  • SMU: 2 <- Really?!
