Ouch! That’s a little harsh, Associated Press. The Cincinnati Bearcats lost by 1 to the then-11th best team in the country Louisville and were dropped four spots in the latest AP Poll. The Cardinals needed a miraculous floater from guard Russ Smith to upend UC on their home court. But the voters docked them for not surviving for 2.2 seconds longer and dropped Cincinnati out of the top-10. The Bearcats are now ranked #11 with 921 votes.

While I can grumble about UC’s latest slotting in the AP Poll, we have to quickly turn our attention to the Connecticut Huskies, who are just on the outside looking in at 26th. The Bearcats not only face their nemesis Shabazz Napier on Saturday but do so on UConn’s home court. Cincinnati narrowly beat them a few weeks ago at Fifth Third Arena but the XL Center is a different animal. At least it’s not the hornets nest that is the Gampel Pavilion but still, beating the Huskies on the road is no easy task. A week off will help the good guys in this one, though, as well as familiarity with their opponent. Regardless, this should make for an excellent game between two strong AAC teams on ESPN this Saturday.
