The individual postseason awards are beginning to get doled out to the American Conference Champion Cincinnati Bearcats. Senior guard Sean Kilpatrick was named to the All-AAC 1st-Team after leading the conference with 20.6 points per game. He was the only unanimous 1st-Team decision other than UConn’s Shabazz Napier and Louisville’s Russ Smith. But the praise doesn’t stop there. Fellow senior Justin Jackson was named to the All-AAC 2nd-Team after being so instrumental to Cincinnati’s success in 2013-14. As we’ve said all season, JJ has literally been UC’s only answer in the paint all season. Without him owning the area around the basket, who knows how the Bearcats would have fared this year.

But back to Kilpatrick, he is receiving well-deserved praise from the conference to be sure but he has higher honors on his mind. The UC guard should be in line for an AAC Player of the Year award for a number of reasons and could be named to the All-American team. He would be the first Bearcat since Steve Logan in 2002 to obtain such an honor. The encouraging news is that early indications suggest Kilpatrick could be named to the team when the NCAA makes an official announcement. So be on the lookout for that in the coming days!
