Head football coach Tommy Tuberville and former captain JK Schaffer have been participating in the annual Chick-fil-A Bowl Challenge. The charitable golf tournament takes place at the Reynolds Plantation resort on Lake Oconee in Atlanta, Georgia. 11 pairings are chosen from select universities, each one vying for a $125,000 first-place prize in scholarships for their school as a major portion of a $520,000 purse.

The field typically consists of schools from across the South. Paul Johnson and Jon Barry representing Georgia Tech won in back-to-back years in 2011 and 2012 with Steve Spurrier and Sterling Sharpe of South Carolina coming out on top in 2008 and 2009. Cincinnati was a new participant in the event and you can probably thank Tommy Tuberville’s connections for that.

The first year team seems to be doing well in the tournament. Tuberville and Schaffer are 3-under par and tied for fourth. Team Georgia Tech is pacing the field at -7 with Ole Miss (Hugh Freeze/Sean Tuohy) right behind them at 5-under. Due to inclement weather on Monday, all teams were only able to get nine holes in. They will attempt to get the final nine in today along with the skills challenge so long as the weather holds up. The current standings are below and final results will be posted later today.
