The Cincinnati saga of freshman power forward Jermaine Lawrence’s career came to an end last week. A new one begins for him at Manhattan College, according to Alex Kline:

Lawrence applied to leave the Bearcats basketball program on May 9th. By the following Wednesday, the freshman was granted his release from Cincinnati. There were a number of reasons why Jermaine Lawrence decided to transfer from UC and twice as many rumors of all levels of absurdity as well. The most glaring fact was that his father Bobby was battling cancer and the young man wanted to be closer to him during his time of need. Considering Manhattan’s close proximity to New Jersey, this will be a good fit for Lawrence.

Basketball wise, he really couldn’t go to a more up-and-coming program. Under Steve Masiello, despite not getting his college degree, he led the Jaspers to their first NCAA Tournament appearance in a decade this past season. Lawrence will have a great opportunity to develop his skills under the head coach’s tutelage.

So even though we’ll never see the true freshman in a Bearcats uniform ever again, and tragically so I might add, I can’t help but want to keep an eye on him at his new MAAC home. Best of luck at Manhattan, Jermaine! I hope you figure out a way to put it all together with the Jaspers.
