Donate To The Ben Flick Memorial Bench

In late September, following Cincinnati’s 14-0 win over the Miami (OH) Redhawks in Oxford, Ben Flick, Mark Barr, Javon Harrison, and another student were involved in a major car accident in Hanover Township. Barr, Harrison, and the driver were able to survive the crash after varying lengths of time spent in hospitals and rehab but Flick wasn’t so lucky. His life was tragically stripped from us following the accident.

Flick’s death hung like a dark cloud over UC’s football program in the ensuing months. Cincinnati did their part honoring the freshman’s life and schools around the country pledged their support. All of this did a lot to lift the spirits of everyone surrounding the program but it was clear every pass and tackle last season had a little extra meaning behind it.

Now, Emily Burton, Ben’s sister, has started a campaign to raise funds for a Ben Flick memorial bench to be placed on campus. You can donate by accessing that link and clicking the “Contribute Now” button. It looks like fundraising is going swimmingly. Emily apparently kicked off the campaign on June 20th and as of this post she’s already 85% of the way to their $2,000 goal. At this rate she’ll have enough money for two or three benches when it’s all said and done.

To close, I should probably mention that this is supposed to be a surprise for Ben Flick’s dad Rick. So hopefully he doesn’t read this blog and try to share this out as discreetly as you possibly can. As discreetly as social media can be nowadays.
