2) Wide Receiver – Shaq Washington
Mr. First Down was critical in Cincinnati’s offense in 2013. As a safety valve for Brendon Kay, Shaq Washington hauled in a team leading 77 receptions last season, nearly 60% of which moved the chains. The Bearcats’ running game was sketchy at times, unable to gain consistent yardage and putting the weight on Kay’s shoulder’s to complete long third down passes. Thankfully he had Washington shedding coverage and finding the soft spots in the zone near the first down marker.
As of now I’m not confident in the Bearcats’ running game improving over last season. Giving more of Ralph David Abernathy’s carries to Hosey Williams and Tion Green helps, as well as a solid returning offensive line. But if the season began today Shaq Washington would go down as my most important wide receiver coming back in 2014 and the second most important offensive player.
