Cincinnati Bearcats offensive tackle Eric Lefeld has been named to the 2014 Outland Trophy watch list. He is among 64 players to have their name called when it was revealed today.
The Outland Award is presented to college football’s most outstanding lineman. Technically it’s a trophy for the most outstanding interior lineman (guards, centers, defensive tackles) but apparently offensive tackles and defensive ends have won it in the past. So I guess it makes sense why Cincinnati’s stud OT made the list, especially considering he is arguably the Bearcats’ most important returning offensive player to the team in 2014. Lefeld joins Bearcats center Deyshawn Bond (Rimington Trophy) to make early 2014 college football watch lists.
On the flip side, the Bronko Nagurski watch list was revealed today but no Cincinnati player made the list. Silverberry Mouhon wags his finger at your ignorance, voters.
Also on the watch list front:
- Deyshawn Bond renamed to Rimington Award (Best Center) watch list
- No Bearcats were named to the Bednarik Award (Best Defensive Player) or Maxwell Award (Best Offensive Player) watch lists
- Cincinnati didn’t have a player named to the Lou Groza (Best Kicker) or Ray Guy (Best Punter) watch lists
