Cincinnati Bearcats wide receiver Shaq Washington has been named to the 2014 Biletnikoff Award watch list. He was among 55 wide outs selected by the trophy’s National Selection Committee.
The Biletnikoff Award is presented to college football’s best wide receiver. Considering Shaq Washington paced the Bearcats with 77 receptions last season as a junior, many of which went for first downs, seeing his name on the list is nice albeit unsurprising honor. Once again, though, I’m stupefied by the kind of turn around Washington has had at UC. At one point the wide receiver from Maple Heights, Ohio flat out left the program. But he wound up returning after the Winter break and developed a niche in the slot for the Bearcats, which has allowed him to bail out Cincinnati’s offense time and time again. In other words, to say Shaq Washington’s contributions to this team have been extraordinary would be an understatement.
Also on the watch list front:
- Deyshawn Bond renamed to Rimington Award (Best Center) watch list
- No Bearcats were named to the Bednarik Award (Best Defensive Player) or Maxwell Award (Best Offensive Player) watch lists
- Cincinnati didn’t have a player named to the Lou Groza (Best Kicker) or Ray Guy (Best Punter) watch lists
- Eric Lefeld named to Outland Trophy (Best Lineman) watch list
- UC also missed out on the Jim Thorpe Award (Best Defensive Back) watch list
- Silverberry Mouhon was named to the Lombardi Award (Best Lineman) watch list
