Former Cincinnati Bearcats Runningback George Winn Signs With Detroit Lions

According to NBC Sports, former Cincinnati Bearcats runningback George Winn has signed with the Detroit Lions. The team made the announcement on Tuesday night.

Winn wasn’t selected in the 2013 NFL Draft but signed with the Houston Texans as a free agent. His tenure in Texas didn’t last long as he moved on to the New England Patriots before the 2013 NFL preseason and started bouncing around the league shortly thereafter. Now it seems the Detroit Lions are taking a chance on the bruising former Bearcat. Winn did an excellent job replacing do-everything back Isaiah Pead after the 2011 season. He racked up over 1,300 yards and 13 touchdowns in 2012, both of which surpass his predecessor’s season ending numbers.

Clearly Winn’s collegiate resume is solid but it seems like the hasn’t been able to get over the hump and elevate his game to a professional level. He not only moved teams quite a bit last season but did little more than report to the practice squad and get a few reps in preseason games. Hopefully the Detroit Lions recognize Winn’s abilities as either a bruising runningback or athletic fullback in the NFL.

Good luck, George!
