Nippert Construction Update Notes (August 7th Edition)

If you haven’t been following the progress of the renovations of Nippert stadium on the webcam UC has set up in the Lindner Center, the athletic department released two renovation/construction-related video updates yesterday.

The first video is an interview with athletic director Mike Bohn, which, quite frankly, doesn’t have much in the way of construction details.  In a nutshell, it’s three minutes worth of buzzwords like “intrigue,” shining star,” and “Hottest College in America” to get us excited about the new stadium (as if we aren’t already).  It is nice to see that Bohn seems to be very passionate about pushing UC athletics to the next level.  Here is the interview:

The second video is the latest installment in the series of interviews with construction project manager Bob Martin.  This is the one with some meat to it.  Martin says that the last concourse-level concrete is set to be poured literally as he speaks, and this will pave the way for the walls of the third and final building core to go up shortly.  The steel beams for the club seats currently extend to about the 25-yard line, and once the third core is complete, the the steel for the rest of the club seats in the Southwest corner will be put into place.  We will then begin to see progress begin on the club level.  Martin and Tommy G. promise another update sometime at the end of August.

There are some great shots of the steel and concrete work here, and the video gives you an idea of how wide the new West concourse will be, as well as how much space separates the new building from Tangeman Center.  Also, there are a few close-up shots of the club seating, and it looks like there will be eight rows of seats in the new deck.  This is right in line with the seating capacity estimation that I did back in January.  Here’s the video:
