Rumor: Cincinnati, Pittsburgh Schedule Home-And-Home Series

Rumor has it the River City Rivalry is coming back. While the dates are currently unknown, a series has been agreed upon, according to a source.

Earlier today, William Wolkoff of SportsBlitz received word of the home-and-home series between the Bearcats and Panthers. This is good news for a Cincinnati football program caught in conference purgatory and struggling with a lack of historical rivalries.

The Bearcats are currently in possession of The Paddlewheel Trophy. The teams last played in 2012, as Cincinnati torched the Panthers in a 34-10 season-opening victory at Nippert Stadium. When Pittsburgh left for the ACC following the 2012 season, the rivalry was suspended until further notice. Although the Panthers have the edge in the series with an 8-4 record, the Bearcats have won four of the last five meetings, with the most notable coming in 2009 (pictured above). By winning that game 45-44, Cincinnati clinched a Big East title, perfect regular season, and a BCS bowl berth.

Again, this is not yet official, and we don’t know when this will be announced. However, it sounds like we haven’t seen the last of the Pitt Panthers in Nippert Stadium.

SportsBlitz is a radio program on UC’s Bearcast Media, airing Sundays at noon during the school year.
