Tommy Tuberville UConn Week Press Conference Notes

As part of our weekly routine, here are the notes from Cincinnati Bearcats head coach Tommy Tuberville’s weekly presser. In this segment, he’s heavily focused on preparing for the UConn Huskies, which UC faces this Saturday night.

Stray Observations

  • Tommy Sniffles: 3
  • Overall, he’s very impressed with the team’s performance on Thursday night “in most areas”. Cincinnati sure had some lapses offensively and defensively but they pulled out a win. No team can play perfect football for 60 minutes but as long as they did most things correctly and were on the right side of the scoreboard come the final whistle, coaches will be happy.
  • Tuberville attests better tackling to the main reason why the defense played better on Thursday night.
  • He mentions that Andrew Gantz isn’t a “technical” kicker, in that he doesn’t focus on the fundamentals and just tries to simply put his foot on the ball and send it through the uprights regardless of how he goes about it. That’s really interesting considering his predecessor had so many issues with fundamentals.
  • Gantz is “hyper”. I like that.
  • “We were playing the wrong guys at the beginning of the year” at running back. That’s too candid, Tuberville.
  • “We’re as healthy right now as we’ve been, knock on wood.”
  • No one in the media asked Tuberville about Eddie Gran’s bizarre 4th down option call that nearly cost Cincinnati the East Carolina game. Odd.
