Final College Football Playoff Rankings Are Ideal For Cincinnati

The final College Football Playoff rankings of the 2014 season were revealed this afternoon with a top 4 that couldn’t be more ideal for the Cincinnati Bearcats.

  1. Alabama Crimson Tide
  2. Oregon Ducks
  3. Florida State Seminoles
  4. Ohio State Buckeyes

Alabama and Oregon held steady at the top but the real mover and shakers were at 3 thru 6.

In their championship games last night, Florida State and Ohio State claimed statement wins the college football playoff committee deemed strong enough to propel them into the playoff.

Most importantly, the Big 12 was left wanting. The TCU Horned Frogs fell from 3 to 5 and the Baylor Bears held at 6. This despite TCU rolling Iowa State 55-3 and Baylor beating 9th ranked Kansas State 38-27 yesterday.

But, since the Big 12 with just 10 schools opted for a round-robin format in their schedule instead of a conference championship game like the ACC and Big Ten, their best representatives are now on the outside looking in.

This really couldn’t have played out better for the Cincinnati Bearcats. A program on the cusp of a Power 5 conference invitation should the realignment wheels start turning again, UC basically sent the Big 12 a better reason to expand than any Nippert Stadium expansion could ever do.

The Big 12 effectively knows that they need a conference championship game sooner rather than later or be absent from the college football playoff more often than not. If Bob Bowlsby isn’t writing a letter to Santa Ono and Mike Bohn right now, I’m not sure what else he could be doing.
