Cincinnati Bearcats Recruiting: Halfback Taylor Boose Signs With UC

Halfback Taylor Boose has officially signed with the Cincinnati Bearcats for their 2015 recruiting class.

Here’s a snippet from his full recruiting profile.

OVERVIEW

For a 6’0″, 200+ lbs ball carrier, Boose is fairly fleet of foot. What pops out at me is that he’s a one-cut runningback, in that he identifies a lane immediately, digs his cleat in the turf, and propels upfield with little hesitation. That decisiveness is necessary for ball carriers coming out of the backfield now-a-days as defenses become faster and more complex. Runningbacks need to take what opponents give him and Boose does that well. Additionally, if he gets to the second level, he appears to have the leg strength to turn on the jets and sprint past opposing linebackers and defensive backs. Considering Boose weighs in at right around 200 lbs, this is mighty impressive. And to that point, the runningback is just a load to bring down. Boose is constantly churning his legs and using his arms wisely to shed himself of defenders. Overall, I really like what Robert Prunty found in this Virginia runningback.

OUTLOOK

Boose was a two-way player in high school but I think he should focus on the offensive side of the ball at Cincinnati. He lined up at runningback and upback for Centreville. Considering UC is absolutely starving for a back with his combination of size and speed at both positions, I wouldn’t be surprised if the coaches burned Boose’s redshirt during his first year in Clifton (err.. Clifton, Ohio). Of course that all depends on the performance of some of the current runningbacks and fullbacks on the roster next season.
