Trent Cole signs with the Indianapolis Colts

I just wrote a piece keeping #BearcatNation up to date on Trent Cole’s situation in the NFL as he was released by the Philadelphia Eagles.

"I’ll date myself, because Trent Cole was playing for the Bearcats when I was running around campus. Wednesday morning we got news that the Philadelphia Eagles are going to cut Cole because a revised deal couldn’t be worked out between him and the team.Cole played for the Eagles for 10 seasons after being drafted in the 5th round in 2005. He went on to become a sack master for the Eagles during his tenure becoming the 2nd leading sack artist for the franchise with 85.5, behind the great Reggie White. That’s great company right?Cole has made two pro bowls during his lengthy career. He has been a constant whether playing defensive end or outside linebacker. He is coming off a four year $53.5 million deal with $14.5 guaranteed that he signed in March of 2012. Of course he didn’t see the full amount and its highly unlikely get another pay day equal to that contract, but a team will defiantly take a chance on him with a one or two year deal giving him an incentive based deal. At 32 years of age, Cole would provide with a team with much needed help pressuring the quarterback. Who doesn’t like quarterback pressure? On Tuesday, Cole was signed by the Indianapolis Colts. For those still in the Cincy area if you want to check out your Bearcat brother you just have a two hour drive up I-74 West (or less depending on how you drive). Cole received a two year deal worth reportedly $16 million with $8 million guaranteed. That pretty much means he is on a one year audition with the Colts. Hopefully he does good in the blue and white.
