Sean Kilpatrick Scores 13 In Timberwolves Win Over Jazz

Former Cincinnati Bearcats shooting guard Sean Kilpatrick was signed by the Timberwolves to a 10-day contract and it appears the transaction is paying dividends for Minnesota.

Kilpatrick dropped a cool 13 points in his third game with the T-Wolves, leading them to a 106-104 victory over the Utah Jazz.

The UC guard finished his career as an All-American, averaging over 20 points per game as a senior. Unfortunately it wasn’t enough to get him selected in the 2014 NBA Draft. As a result, Kilpatrick wound up signing with the Philadelphia 76ers to play in the Las Vegas Summer League. He performed well but couldn’t make the 76ers’ regular roster, which is rather hilarious considering how terrible that team is.

Kilpatrick then was picked up by the Golden State Warriors but a deep roster prevented him from rising up the ranks. Most recently, the Timberwolves gave the prolific scorer a shot due in part them sustaining a laundry list of injuries. Kilpatrick gave Minnesota 10 solid minutes off the bench in his NBA debut, recording a rebounding and actually shooting the ball.

Part of that was probably the nerves, which he shook off two games later to go off for 13, the fourth most of any Timberwolves player. Kilpatrick went 4-7 from the field and 75% from three. He also went perfect from the free throw line (of course he did) and posted the best +/- of any player on the floor (+14). In other words, Kilpatrick was a key cog in Minnesota’s best offensive runs or defensive stops.

I’m not sure what the future holds for the UC star. He’s certainly proven his worth for the Timberwolves and that will certainly catch the attention of other NBA teams. When his 10-day contract is up, I’d be curious if Kilpatrick finds a soft landing spot somewhere, maybe even back at Minnesota.
