5) Banschbach Blunder

Here’s an example of awful player management from Tommy Tuberville.

Cincinnati was curb stomping a bad South Florida team when this occurred. UC was up 20-3 at halftime and by the fourth quarter the Bearcats had long replaced their starters with backups. With 7:39 left in the game Cincinnati was leading comfortably 34-17 and burning clock. Munchie Legaux was in for Gunner Kiel, Nate Cole in for Mekale McKay, and at this point fifth-stringer Chad Banschbach had relieved Mike Boone.

Again, UC was simply burning clock and methodically marched their way into USF’s red zone. Instead of simply kneeling with the clock ticking under the two-minute mark, Tuberville ran Banschbach a few more times. The last one ended his season, as the running back dislocated his right shoulder after hitting the ground hard along the sidelines.

Perhaps the most idiotic part of this was that Tuberville called for a quarterback kneel a play after Banschbach dislocated his shoulder. Seriously?! Never have I seen a coach act so irresponsibly. That’s something I’d expect from a twenty or thirty year old head coach, not one with more experience in the ranks than I’ve had years on this Earth.

It honestly still pisses me off and I’d hope Tuberville has since apologized to Banschbach and his family.
