NC State Power Forward Kyle Washington Visiting UC Today

Jon Rothstein at CBS Sports is reporting that former NC State Wolfpack power forward Kyle Washington is visiting the Cincinnati Bearcats today.

Washington announced he was transferring from NC State on April 15th and had a laundry list of suitors vying for his services from the get-go. Considering they lose basically their entire front court following this season, Mick Cronin and the Bearcats were definitely among them.

The Wolfpack forward averaged a respectable 6.8 points and 4.1 rebounds in just about 17.8 minutes of playing time as a sophomore last season. Extrapolate that out to a full workload at the five and you’re looking at a double-double caliber player. It’s no wonder UC is going after him so hard, especially since they missed out Ebuka Izundu a month ago.

But the Bearcats aren’t the only one trying to add Washington to their roster. He took a trip to Milwaukee to visit Marquette last weekend and is receiving interest from Providence and Arizona State.

UC just needs to make sure that interest isn’t mutual by the time Washington leaves Clifton. He would have to sit out this season, likely taking a redshirt in the process but it would allow him three years to play two. With Octavius Ellis and Coreontae DeBerry gone after 2015-16, Cincinnati could slide Washington right into place to split time with Quadri Moore. Or if Washington plays to his abilities, he could earn most of that time at the five.

No matter his outlook as a potential Bearcat, Mick Cronin and the staff need to lock him down. I’m not sure what I’ll do if another high caliber transfer spurns UC again.
