Nippert Stadium Construction Update: 8/19/2015

Can you believe it?  This is the final Nippert Stadium construction update ever.  We are just two-and-a-half weeks away from the Bearcats’ season opener, when they will host Alabama A&M at UC’s newly renovated football stadium.  The concourses will be opened to foot traffic on Monday the 24th, when Fall Semester classes begin at UC.  Then the stadium will unofficially open with high school games next Friday and Saturday nights as part of the Skyline Chili Crosstown Showdown.  The Bearcats will then host the official grand re-opening a week later on September 5 at 7:00.

  • On the West side of the stadium, final coats of paint are going onto the walls, and furniture will be going in next week.  The club seats and suites will be closed during the weekend’s high school games as crews continue to work to ensure that the stadium will be ready for Opening Night on the 5th.
  • On the East side, everything is basically done.  This Friday the 21st, final inspections will be done, and the East concourse will be ready for student foot traffic and the subsequent high school games.
  • This week’s video includes a great time-lapse of construction to date.
  • Also, Mike Bohn quelled speculation that changes to the lower seating bowl would be made to accommodate FC Cincinnati, the expansion third-division soccer team that will play at Nippert starting next Spring.  FC-C released a rather ambitious concept of soccer at Nippert that took liberties with the stadium’s permanent seating configuation, which can already accommodate soccer.  The soccer club and billionaire owner Carl Lindner III will be funding much of Phase II of the renovations, which will include a new scoreboard and locker room upgrades next year.

Here’s the video of the (almost) finished product.  See you all in the stands in just a few short weeks!
