Bearcats Football: UC’s Series With Boise State Bumped To 2024-25

The Cincinnati Bearcats’ football series with the Boise State Broncos, originally scheduled for 2019-20, has been bumped to 2024-25, the school announced today.

Now the Marshall series makes sense.

Last week, UC announced that they would hook up with the Thundering Herd on the gridiron beginning in 2017 at Nippert Stadium with the Bearcats returning the favor in Huntington, West Virginia in 2019. That return game was perplexing because Cincinnati already had Boise State, Ohio State, UCLA, and the annual match up with Miami (OH) on the docket. Unless Mike Bohn had the foresight to believe that the AAC was going to reduce their conference games from eight to seven, which would have been ludicrous, one of those games would have to be moved.

Now we know that it’s the series with the Boise State Broncos who will be moved out a few years, presumably because they themselves have signed on to play Marshall in 2019 and 2020.

So for 2019 the Bearcats will face Ohio State, Marshall, and Miami (OH) on the road and UCLA at home. That’s a pretty daunting non-conference slate, even if the roadie against the Redhawks is a pseudo-home game for Cincinnati. I’d be curious if UC tries to bump Ohio State out a year or two to get another actual game at Nippert Stadium on the schedule.

As for Boise State, they now join UC’s other non-conference opponent the Pitt Panthers in 2024 with Cincinnati heading to the smurf turf that season. The Bearcats will also play the Broncos and the Nebraska Cornhuskers in 2025, both home games that hopefully remain on the schedule because can you imagine how incredible it would be to host both of them in the same season? That would be incredible.
