Cumberland committed to UC on July 1st, as part of a simply unbelievable 24 hour haul on the recruiting trail by Mick Cronin and his staff. Since then, the prolific offensive shooting guard has done nothing but drop an egregious amount of points on anyone and anything that stood in his way. He averaged 20.8 points per game during the Nike Peach Jam Tournament in July, playing against some of the best AAU players in the country, and further proved the fact that Cronin is focusing on signing recruits with established abilities on offense.
It’s unlikely Cumberland takes a redshirt next season, unless an injury creeps up between now and next November. With UC operating a rotation of 10+ players while simultaneously losing Farad Cobb to graduation after this season, it stands to reason that the Ohio shooting guard sees upwards of 10-15 minutes in 2016. He’ll probably sit near the end of the bench but will certainly get his feet wet as a true freshman.
Here’s a snippet from his full recruiting profile.
"ANALYSISCumberland is simply a pure scorer. Not necessarily an athletic shooter, which has plagued Cincinnati offensively in the past, but a player who can put the ball in the basket in a number of ways. He can use his 6’4″, 200 lbs frame to bully his way inside for hard fought points just as easily as he can step back from beyond the arc and drop a three. Cumberland also displays excellent vision, that ability to see the entire offense as one cohesive unit instead of the floor immediately in front of him. It’s that mental aspect of his game that elevates him from simply a solid role player to an elite guard. And he’s committed to the Bearcats, which is a great thing."
