Three-star offensive tackle Kendall Calhoun has officially signed with the Cincinnati Bearcats for their 2016 recruiting class on National Signing Day.

Here’s a snippet from his full recruiting profile.

OVERVIEW

Obviously Calhoun’s size is what got him noticed by division one coaches but it’s his maneuverability that earned him actual scholarship offers. It’s not often you see 6’7″, 290 lbs linemen shuffle their feet so quickly like he does. Now, that isn’t always the case and he sometimes gets himself caught flat-footed but the raw skills are definitely there. Rounding out those inconsistencies will only take a bit of coaching, a task Hiller I’m sure is more than willing to take on for him.

But when he is moving his legs, Calhoun appears nearly impossible to get around in pass protection. Smaller, more agile edge rushers will certainly be a problem but that’s can be the case with several linemen his size and, again, can be fixed with coaching. But the way Calhoun quickly identifies and engages with a blitzing defensive end is impressive. He has no hesitation and that will certainly cut down on the quicker edge rushers’ advantage at the collegiate level.

OUTLOOK

With Parker Ehinger on his way out, hopefully to the NFL, there is some room for newer players to fill out roles on the two deep. Calhoun could certainly be on of them. I mean, you don’t recruit JUCO players of his size to have them ride the bench. There are exceptions, like Idarius Ray this past season but he would have been starting had he not been battling the injury bug all year. The same goes with Calhoun. Should he remain healthy and pick up Cincinnati’s system, he could be plugged into the two deep immediately.
