Luke Fickell is looking to build the Bearcats 2024 recruiting class and 4-star cornerback Bryce West is another potential target to keep an eye on going forward. West is a dynamic athlete with elite ball skills and an ability to play multiple positions and return kicks. Even though West is projected to commit to Ohio State by multiple crystal balls, there are several other schools in the running and Cincinnati remains in contention.

The Bearcats extended an offer to West on May 17.

After his sophomore season at Glenville High School, the Cleveland native received a lot of interest on the recruiting trail and picked up offers from Kentucky, Michigan, Michigan State, Notre Dame, Penn State, Pittsburgh, Virginia Tech and others. According to On3 Recruiting, West is the 27th ranked prospect in the class, the third highest-rated cornerback and the top ranked recruit from Ohio.

“I want to go to a school with great academics and will take me seriously. I want to get on the field early as a freshman and not a school that makes you wait so many years to get on the field,” West explained to Irish Sports Daily in an interview last week. “I’m looking for a close relationship with the staff and that plays a big part in my recruitment.”

The 6’0 cornerback is certainly in the middle of Ohio State territory but he wants to visit several schools this summer before making a commitment. West most recently visited Michigan in late March and is hoping to check out Notre Dame, Ohio State, Penn State and Virginia Tech at some point in the near future. Cincinnati is likely going to host West for an unofficial visit but his recruiting looks like it will continue to be competitive.

“In my recruitment, I’m very open minded,” West told Irish Sports Daily.
