“I am very grateful for Cincinnati offering me and starting off my recruiting process. They have always been up there with some of my top choices,” 4-star defensive end prospect Eddie Tuerk told me in April. “My recent visits have been great, the people and coaches are amazing and it feels like a second family. They always know how to treat their guests and have told me I am a priority for them in the 2024 class.”

Tuerk observed the Bearcats spring practice last month and has visited multiple times since earning an offer on June 7, 2021. The 2024 defensive lineman from Lyons Township High School is the 5th highest rated recruit from Illinois and has picked up 15 scholarship offers from Illinois, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, Northwestern, Ole Miss, Tennessee, Wisconsin and more. Tuerk is the 235th ranked prospect in the nation per On3 Recruiting.

“It feels great to be the 5th ranked player in Illinois and I’ve been working so hard to get to this point. However I will not stop and let the rankings get to my head and affect my game. I’m still the same guy I was before I had offers,” Tuerk explained to me. “Some favorites I may have at this point are probably teams who have been recruiting me for the longest such as Cincinnati, Michigan, Iowa, Tennessee and Northwestern.”

According to On3 Recruiting, Iowa (50.8%) is the favorite to land Tuerk but several other programs remain in the mix as well. In addition to visiting Cincinnati’s spring practice, Tuerk took trips to Nebraska, Northwestern and Tennessee in early April. The 6’4, 255-pound defensive end was most recently offered by Bowling Green and Illinois and is planning to attend the Notre Dame Irish Invasion camp on June 6.

“I describe my play style as very aggressive and energetic. I am always running to the ball. I can stop the run efficiently and also get after the passer on third down. This season I want to improve on my pass rush and stamina because I will be running both ways at left tackle,” Tuerk said. “My goals for high school are to win back to back conference championships. I also hope to win a state championship and be the first team in our program history to do so.”
