The Bearcats women’s basketball program recently added another assistant coach, hiring former Tennessee star Bridgette Gordon, to fill the final vacancy on the coaching staff. After an illustrious playing career, Gordon worked at Tennessee, Stetson, Georgia State, Wichita State, SMU and Kansas State before moving to Cincinnati.

Gordon was one of the best players in school history as the Volunteers won two national championships and reached four straight Final Fours as she took home the NCAA Final Four MVP. During her senior season at Tennessee, Gordon was also named SEC Player of the Year and finished with the most points and steals in program history.

“I am so excited to add Bridgette to our Bearcat family. I have known Bridgette since our playing days in college. She is an absolute winner,” head coach Michelle Clark-Heard told Cincinnati Athletics. “I can’t wait to witness how she will empower these young ladies and help them become the best version of themselves.”

Following her time at Tennessee, Gordon won a gold medal in the 1988 Olympics and played professionally in Italy and Turkey before joining the WNBA’s Sacramento Monarchs. She was inducted into the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame in 2007. At the time, Gordon was Georgia State’s recruiting coordinator and later became a regional scout in the WNBA for a year.

Prior to returning to Tennessee in 2017, Gordon was an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Wichita State for seven seasons. Since then, Gordon spent two years as an assistant at SMU and last year as Kansas State’s Director of Operations. The Bearcats also hired assistant coaches Myia Johnson and Devrinn Paul this offseason.
